Privacy Policy

The short version: your notes, links, and voice memos are end-to-end encrypted — we cannot read them. We collect the minimum needed to run the service, we never sell data, and we show no ads and do no cross-app tracking.
Who we are
Buddie ("we", "us") is a personal capture and reminder app operated by Bankole Abiodun. Contact: bankole.adesoji@gmail.com.
What we collect and why
- Email address — to create and secure your account. Your password never reaches our servers in usable form; authentication uses a derived key, so we cannot recover your password or decrypt your content with it.
- Your content (notes, links, voice memos) — stored end-to-end encrypted. Encryption keys are derived on your device; we hold only ciphertext and cannot read it.
- Audio for transcription — only if you enable transcription and accept the in-app consent notice, a voice memo is sent to a speech-to-text provider to be transcribed, then the transcript is stored encrypted like the rest of your content. Transcription is off until you opt in.
- Reminder times — stored in readable form on the server so we can deliver push notifications on schedule. Reminder times only, never the content they refer to.
- Anonymous usage events — a random install identifier plus event names (like "note_created"), never content, to understand which features are used. This identifier is not linked to your email or account identity.
- Push tokens — device tokens from Apple/Google so reminders can reach your device.
What we do not do
- No ads, no ad networks, no data brokers.
- No cross-app or cross-site tracking of any kind.
- No selling or renting of personal data, ever.
- No reading of your content — we cannot, by design.
Sharing with a partner
If you pair with a partner, only the items you explicitly share are made available to them, encrypted for their keys. Unpairing stops the sharing.
Where data lives
Content ciphertext and account data are stored on our servers; encrypted audio files are stored with Cloudflare R2. Service providers we use (hosting, object storage, speech-to-text, push delivery) process data only as needed to provide the service.
Retention and deletion
- Items you trash are purged after 30 days.
- If you delete your account, all associated data is permanently deleted within 30 days.
- Backups are encrypted and rotate on a fixed schedule.
Your rights
You can export your data from the app, correct it, or delete your account at any time. Depending on where you live (including the EU/UK under GDPR and California under CCPA), you may also have rights to access, portability, correction, and erasure — contact us and we will honour them.
Children
Buddie is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, we will note it here and in the app before the change takes effect.
